'Tango as Dialogue: Weight, Listening & Shared Movement s Jessicou Gerdel (VEN/ARG)'
What happens when we bring the principles of Contact Improvisation into Tango Argentino and look at tango through a body that already knows how to listen, respond and share weight?
This workshop explores tango as a conversation between two bodies.
We’ll work with principles such as grounding, weight transfer, axis, connection, direction and responsiveness, exploring how small changes in our own organization can transform what becomes possible between two people who embrace each other.
Rather than learning steps or choreography to reproduce, we’ll use tango material as a framework for research:
How do we communicate movement without forcing it? How can we become more sensitive to changes in weight and intention? What happens when we allow the other person’s movement to genuinely influence our own? How can we stay grounded and available while moving together? Where is the boundary between leading, following and co-creating? How can contact become clearer without becoming rigid? We’ll move between individual exploration, partner exercises and tango-based improvisation, gradually bringing these principles into recognizable tango situations.
Who is it for? No previous tango experience is required. Experience with Contact Improvisation or other movement practices is welcome, but curiosity and willingness to explore are more important than technical background.
You may work in either role, and we’ll encourage switching roles throughout the workshop.
Come ready to move, listen, experiment and discover what happens when tango becomes less about “doing the right thing” and more about meeting another body in motion.
