Open Class: The Embrace in Tango
How music changes the distance between two people
Is the embrace different for D'Arienzo than for Pugliese? And why do some orchestras almost force a couple to close in completely, while others ask for space, elasticity and breath?
In this open class we won't be discussing "correct tango". We'll be exploring how the embrace has changed throughout history: from the rhythmic crowded milongas of old Buenos Aires to the more open and dynamic contemporary salón.
We'll try: - a very close, compact embrace - a salón embrace with subtle elasticity - more open work with the axis and rotation
Each time to different music. D'Arienzo. Caló. Pugliese.
Same couple. Different feeling. Different breath. Different movement.
Don't expect a class of figures. Rather a small journey through everything the embrace in tango can be.
